From One Edge to the Other

作品说明

From One Edge to the Other traces a gradual transformation of sound: from near-inaudibility to density, from isolated gestures to organized musical structures. The work begins at the threshold of presence. Breath, friction, and single tones emerge sparsely, suspended in space. Sound exists almost as touch—unformed, fragile, and dispersed. As the piece unfolds, these fragments begin to gather. Isolated pitches accumulate into harmonic fields; brief figures lengthen into melodic phrases. Counterpoint and rhythmic articulation gradually take shape, not as sudden declarations, but as an organic growth of energy. The percussion ensemble plays a dual role: at first extending the flute’s breath through resonance and surface textures, then gradually asserting pulse and weight. What begins as air and resonance evolves into body and motion. By the end, the music reaches the opposite edge of its opening state—rhythmically charged, structurally articulated, and physically grounded. The journey is not a narrative in the traditional sense, but a continuous reorganization of sonic material: from simplicity to complexity, from dispersion to form, from one edge to the other.
